The Anime Club provides a welcoming community for 5th through 8th-grade students who share a passion for anime and Japanese culture. Together, members watch and discuss popular series, explore Japanese traditions, and connect with peers who share their interests. Back by popular demand, the club will continue to host its fan-favorite ramen parties and Japanese snack tastings throughout the year. From lifelong classic fans to curious newcomers, all students are invited to join.
Art Club is a place for practicing artists to hone in on their skills, develop their techniques and portfolios. Students are invited to explore their own creative ideas in an open studio format. The purpose is to give artists the time, space, and resources to pursue their personal (or class) art projects. Artists can also collaborate with each other to work on group projects that will beautify the school and community. We will promote curiosity, and develop our imagination. Students will come together to share their creative ideas, produce original works of art, and receive encouraging feedback to help them become the best artists they can be.
Join the Coyote Chess Club and build your strategy skills for one of the oldest games in the world! Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player looking for a challenge, anyone in grades 5th - 8th are welcome.
"To improve the quality of science education, increase student interest in science, and provide recognition for outstanding achievement in science."..achieved through "competitive science events that challenge students to apply their knowledge and skills in various scientific disciplines, foster teamwork and inspire them to pursue STEM career pathways."- Illinois Science Olympiad Mission
The Science Olympiad team consist of at least 3 but no more than 15 students from CLCS grades 5th to 8th. Students will design solutions to STEM focused challenges, learn more about a variety of science concepts, develop their teamwork skills and of course have FUN.
Science Olympiad team members will compete in one regional competition in March. If we place high enough at the Regional level, we move on to compete in the April State competition. Multiple team member success at the state level earns us a spot at the National competition.
Students who participate in CLCS athletics, MAY also be able to participate in Science Olympiad depending on practice/game schedules and keeping up with Science Olympiad practice "assignments" on their own.
The Science Olympiad team prepares students for hands-on, competitive STEM events covering a wide range of scientific disciplines. Meetings run for 90 minutes, starting in October and leading up to regional and state competitions in the spring.
