The Cambridge Lakes Academy

Blended E-Learning K-12 Program

What is The Academy?

The Cambridge Lakes Academy (TCLA) provides a hybrid, blended learning option for all K-12th grade students, serving as an alternative to the traditional seated school model. This personalized and flexible learning environment is designed for students and families seeking a different educational approach. Students enrolled in TCLA will be paired with a mentor who will provide regular check-ins and support throughout their time in the program.

Who can join?

Cambridge Lakes Academy is a tuition-free school of choice for K–12 students residing within the D300 boundaries. Our curriculum aligns directly with D300 graduation requirements, offering families a high-quality educational path tailored to their needs.

An online learner is...

  • Motivated to chart their own path to the future
  • Able to work and learn independently
  • Able to learn from home or various locations
  • A student who challenges themselves with a rigorous academic curriculum

We use Connections Academy. The information below is an example of course descriptions offered through Connections Academy.

Grades K-8th

My name is Mrs. Wilhite, and I am the Teacher/Mentor at The Cambridge Lakes Academy. Before working at Cambridge Lakes Charter School, I worked as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor both in private practice and community mental health settings. In the mental health setting, I enjoyed helping children and adolescents realize their potential and overcome challenges, and I'm looking forward to helping students in a similar way in the academic setting.

Grades 9-12 (High School)

I am the High School Counselor for Cambridge Lakes Charter School this school year and I couldn't be more excited to be here and support students! In the past, I have worked with special education students in grades 9-12 at an alternative school in District 211; and I completed my year long internship with District 214.

I am looking forward to continuing working with high school students this year and helping them grow and succeed in their academics, their post-secondary plans, and their social emotional needs!

What a "Learning Coach" Looks Like

The level of parent/guardian involvement varies at different grade levels but is nonetheless an important factor in a student's academic success. As a parent or guardian of an Academy student, you are their "Learning Coach," whose responsibility is to provide structure and support to your student.

K-4th Grade:

  • Set aside several hours each day to work on assignments.
  • Go through each lesson with your student.
  • Overseeing their offline homework

5th-8th Grade:

  • Communicate with teachers
  • Help with assignments when needed
  • Monitor student progress

High School:

  • Periodically checking students' grades and lesson completion to determine their status in classes
  • Marking their students' online attendance to confirm that the student completed work that day
  • Attending PLPs with the Teacher
